Boozhoo. Niin Ashley nindizhinikaaz!
Hello, My name is Ashley!
Beading has been a healing journey for me and a way to grieve as well.
As a 2S Nishnaabe born in Renfrew Valley, my roots trace back to L'Île-du-Grand-Calumet where my grandfather was born and baptised by St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church.
I was raised among people who create beautiful things with their hands. Learning woodworking and masonry from him, and crafting and gardening from my grandmother.
Beadwork, which I began with the "brick stitch," weaves their legacies together, aiding me in my healing journey from my grandmother's recent passing. Whether it's inspired by pop culture or tradition, I create to colour our graying world around us.
